Holden Racing Team Selects CFdesign Software

AUSTRALIAN MOTORSPORT HEAVYWEIGHT GAINS AN EDGE WITH UPFRONT CFD

Charlottesville, Virginia – 23 January, 2006 -- Blue Ridge Numerics, Inc. (BRNI) announced today that Holden Racing Team (HRT) in Melbourne, Australia, has selected CFdesign® for virtual prototyping fluid flow and heat transfer performance of automotive components and systems built within the NX3 digital product development system from UGS.

Recognized as a one of the heavyweights of the Australian V8 Supercar Series, HRT has a reputation for finding engineering innovations that help drivers Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly in the highly competitive Australian V8 Supercar Championship.

“We are looking forward to using the Upfront CFD simulation in our high-performance engineering team,” said an HRT spokesperson.

HRT could see the benefits of CFdesign from the very first meeting. Always looking for an edge in a competition where a fraction of a second determines winners and losers.

"HRT is a company that knows how to push performance to the edge. This fast-paced environment is perfect for CFdesign and we are confident today’s decision will further accelerate their innovation process,” stated Blue Ridge Numerics president, Ed Williams. “We’re eager to see the many ways HRT will use Upfront CFD to enhance racing performance.”

About Holden Racing Team
The Holden Racing Team (
http://www.hrt.com.au) was born in 1988 as the logical step to form a touring car team to create a marketing link between the Special Vehicles division and the on-track heritage of Holden's motor sport activities.

Success was immediate, with Percy and Grice to win that year's Toohey's 1000 at Mount Panorama, followed by a second place in 1991. A three-year plan implemented in 1994 had its result in 1996 with Craig Lowndes, in his debut season, sweeping the Australian Touring Car Championship. Alongside Greg Murphy, he backed this up with wins in the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 events. That was the first title for HRT, followed by the recent remarkable winning run of Championships from 1998 to 2002, shared by Lowndes and then Skaife. Victories at Australia's premier touring car event, the Bathurst 1000, also followed in 2001, 2002 and 2005.
